Brain Research UK wanted to better talk to their supporters about the impact of the research they fund. They asked me to review their existing research communications and suggest practical ways to improve.
The challenge
The charity funds a wide portfolio of high-quality research, but recognised that their communications weren’t always bringing this to life for their supporters. They were looking for a fresh perspective on how to tell the story of their research more effectively.
My role
I carried out a ‘mini-audit’ of their research comms, reviewing materials across their website, newsletters, and social media. I produced a clear, short report with constructive feedback and practical recommendations. We had a Zoom call to discuss the findings and potential next steps, and I followed up with more detailed notes on each content type.
Impact
The review gave Brain Research UK a valuable outsider’s perspective on their research communications. It has helped them reflect on both the bigger picture and the finer details of how they present their research, and it will guide their work as they improve how they tell their supporters about the impact their donations are having.
Here’s what Katie Martin, Brain Research UK’s Research Manager, said about working with me:
“Richard was a pleasure to work with, friendly, and very efficient. Having Richard’s fresh, outside perspective has been incredibly valuable. It has helped us to reflect on the way in which we tell the story of our research, both the bigger picture and the finer detail, and will guide improvement going forward.”
