In 2024 I had the pleasure of working with FSHD Global Research Foundation to help them update copy for their fantastic new website.
I worked on two sections – their health information aimed at people affected by FSHD (a muscle-wasting disease), and information about their research and advocacy work.
Though the pages in these sections covered a lot of different topics, they were struggling with a similar issue: getting across complex information in an easy-to-understand way.
The complex symptoms of FSHD, the variety of health effects, the different support available – all this needed to be conveyed in a way that supports people, not overwhelms them.
On top of these, the pages about the charity’s research and advocacy work needed to get across the difference this work would make for people with FSHD.
I reviewed the existing information, helped restructure the health information section, and re-wrote the copy for these pages. The team were really happy with the result, and the health information has been well-received by the FSHD community in Australia.
